Since 2009 Dr. Medicis has been the East Team Medical Affairs Manager/Medical Science Liaison in Ikaria. Prior to this position, from 2007 to 2009 he was a Medical Scientist with Reliant Pharmaceuticals Inc. where he served as a Senior Regional Medical Scientist II–Glaxo Smith Kline. Dr. Medicis received his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1993 from Saint John’s University, New York, New York, College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. In 2011 he completed the Executive Program in Pharmaceutical Management at the Center for Pharmaceutical Management Studies at Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. At the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, Massachusetts Dr. Medicis completed the Certificate Program in Pharmacoeconomics: Cost Effectiveness Analysis for Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Medicis’ academic appointments include Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of General Medicine, Section–Clinical Pharmacology 2003–2006; Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of General Medicine, Section-Clinical Pharmacology, 1998–2003; Assistant Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing, 1999–2006; Research Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, Department of Pharmacology, 1998–Present at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York; Adjunct Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, September 1993–Present at Union University, Albany College of Pharmacy, Albany, New York; and Adjunct Assistant Professor, March 2001–Present with the Department of Pharmacy Practice of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.
The professional societies that Dr. Medicis is a member of include American College of Clinical Pharmacology, American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-system Pharmacists, New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists, Central New York Society of Health-system Pharmacists, and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Dr. Medicis is a consultant pharmacist for miscellaneous medical defense law firms in New York State. Dr. Medicis reviews for the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and for the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and has received numerous major and minor grants and awards throughout his career.
Along with Robert Schnitman and Jim Potenziano in 2010, Dr. Medicis patented a method of improving the safety by which a nitric oxide delivery system incorporates a module which, during gentle ventilation strategies, provides clinical decision support to reduce adverse events due to over or under delivery of nitric oxide.
Dr. Medicis serves as Chairman of Public Policy for the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Dr. Medicis has also served on hospital committees such as the Clinical Pharmacy Performance Improvement Team, June 1998-2006 where he also served as Chair, Medical Staff Quality Improvement Committee, 1997-2000, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, University Hospital 1993–2006, and the Institutional Review Board, University Hospital 1996-2000. He has also been appointed to other committees including being the Regional Facilitator for American College of Clinical Pharmacy, NY, 1997-Present. Dr. Medicis has served on NYS Council of Health System Pharmacists State Wide Committees: Chairman, Nomination Committee, 2006; Amgen Oncology Leadership Grant Committee, 2002; Professional Affairs 1999–2008; Committee on Resolutions 1999–present; Governmental Affairs 1999-present (chair 1999-2004); Delegate to the House 98-2005, 2007, 2008; and President of the House of Delegates in 2006. At the national committee level, Dr. Medicis presently serves as Chairman of Public Policy Committee, American College of Clinical Pharmacology and has done so since 2008. He has also served on the State Governmental Affairs Committee for American Society of Health System Pharmacists from 1999 to 2006.
Dr. Medicis has received numerous awards and honors including a Fellowship from the American College of Clinical Pharmacology in 2009, New York State Council of Health System Pharmacists Dedicated Service Award in 2007, Bristol Myers Squibb Pharmacy Leadership Award in 2006, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Leadership Award in 2006, Pharmacist of the Year, Central New York Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 2005, Best Clinical Medication Management Award – University Health Consortium in 2005, and a Fellowship from the American Society of Health System Pharmacists in 2004.
