Melville Wyche III, MD, Secretary at Veritas Health Care

For as far back as I can remember I have always wanted to be an educator. Perhaps it was in my genes, both of my parents and all of my grandparents were educators. I have always loved teaching. I finished my residency in Anesthesiology in 1993 and was set to work alongside my father as an anesthesiologist at Howard University. He was the chairman of anesthesia at that time. Just months before I was to start I was informed that the University had a nepotism policy and that I would not be able to work at Howard University as an anesthesiologist. I was heartbroken to say the least. I subsequently found a job in private practice where I would work for the next 10 years. In 2003 our hospital was sold and I decided to join the academic anesthesia team at Tulane University. I did receive the faculty teaching award voted on by the residents. This fueled my passion for teaching and I have enjoyed teaching residents ever since. In 2010 I became the Director of Simulation-Anesthesiology, where I could finally test different teaching styles.
